About Our STAT Specimen Transport
When a STAT specimen is on the clock, two things matter: how quickly a courier reaches the pickup door, and how cleanly the sample arrives at the receiving lab. Exodus Health Couriers built our dispatch model around both questions. We preposition vehicles across the Dayton-Kettering metro starting at 0500 each weekday so that an urgent call from a Far Hills clinic, a CompuNet patient service center on Brown Street, or a Wright-Patterson-adjacent practice in Fairborn rarely waits more than 20 minutes for a courier to be on-site. Our typical pickup-to-delivery window across the core metro is 60 to 90 minutes, with edge cities such as Troy, Piqua, and Springboro running 30 to 45 minutes longer depending on the route. Every STAT run is handled by a W-2 driver, not a gig contractor. Each driver completes CITI HIPAA training, OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens training (29 CFR 1910.1030), and a background and drug screen before their first run. Chain of custody is documented at every handoff: barcoded specimen, timestamped pickup and drop-off photos, signature capture, and a tamper-evident transport bag. Your dispatcher sees the driver's GPS in real time, and the receiving lab gets an ETA they can plan around. Cold-chain handling follows CDC clinical-specimen guidance, which recommends storage at 1 to 10 degrees Celsius with no freezing when prompt transfer to the receiving lab is anticipated. Our vehicles carry ambient, refrigerated (2 to 8 degrees C), frozen (-20 and -80 degrees C), and dry-ice configurations with continuous temperature monitoring. If a specimen requires UN3373 packaging for a Category B biological substance, we use IATA Packing Instruction 650 triple packaging that meets the 1.2-meter drop and 95 kPa pressure requirements. STAT pricing is a flat per-pickup rate, set 15 to 20 percent below national medical-courier averages for the Dayton market. Scheduled-account clients pay the same flat rate for STAT pickups nights, weekends, and holidays, no off-hours surcharge. One-off STAT pickups outside a scheduled account may carry an off-hours premium; the quote is given upfront before the run is dispatched.

How STAT Specimen Transport Works
- 1
Call dispatch or use the portal
Dispatch line is (855) 703-4436 or use your account portal. Provide the pickup address, drop-off address, specimen type, and any temperature requirements.
- 2
Nearest qualified driver is dispatched
Our system selects the closest prepositioned driver carrying the right cold-chain equipment and training for the specimen type.
- 3
Driver arrives and opens chain of custody
Driver photographs the pickup, captures signature, seals the specimen in a tamper-evident bag, scans the barcode, and starts GPS tracking.
- 4
Live tracking in transit
You and the receiving lab watch the driver's real-time location and ETA until drop-off. Cold-chain specimens carry continuous temperature logging.
- 5
Drop-off closes the chain
Driver captures a drop-off photo and signature from receiving lab staff, confirms the tamper-evident seal is intact, and closes the chain. You receive a completion notification.
